September 11th

I remember very vividly what I was doing on September 11th, 2001. I was sitting at my desk in my office in Clinton Hall at Wichita State University. At the time, I was Associate Dean. A young man who worked in the Dean's Office, stuck his head into my office and said "Something has happened, a plane has crashed in New York and they are showing it on TV." I went to one of the large lecture halls close to my office. The class was sitting there in silence watching the television. There was an air of stunned disbelief. No one was really saying anything, just watching.

There are times in our lives that "stick" in our memory. I will always remember what I was doing when the planes flew into the World Trade Center.

Two New YouTubes Posted

I have posted two new YouTubes for my HRM students. Other students are, of course, welcome to watch them. I would like to get feedback on these... so feel free to email me with comments. Subject of these two videos are Adverse Impact / Disparate Treatment and HR Planning - Markov Analysis. I know... not very exciting topics...but very necessary.

My YouTube channel is HERE. Feel free to subscribe if you wish.

Social Networking

Online social networking is HUGE... but Facebook and MySpace might have some "image" issues. Take a look at Linked In as an alternative. You can find it in the "Links That I Use" on the right hand side of this blog. Another VERY useful tool is Delicious (link on the right) which is a social bookmarking tool. Both of these are free. I recommend them both.

I just found a post that gives ten ways to use LinkedIn. Go here.

Fall 2008 - A new semester!

It is now the beginning of the Fall semester at Wichita State University. I am teaching HRM 666 - Staffing on Wednesday evenings this fall. In addition I am teaching a course on Saturday mornings (NOT every Saturday morning) to help people prepare for the PHR Certification Exam. I am experimenting with using additional forms of communication including this blog to connect with my students both current and past. This is also a means of sharing additional information with the broader HR community.
