Unfortunately, due to the rough seas, we were unable to go ashore at Ullapool. The region surrounding Ullapool is dominated by rugged mountains. I had never really thought of the Highlands as being mountainous, I thought of them as being "hilly". The picture to the left wasn't taken by me, but shows the small town (1500 inhabitants) on the shores of Loch Broom .
